Historic Church Congregation Made Comfortable with Custom Designed TRAHP® Heat Pipe System

Carolina Heat Pipe works all over the country, helping people in special places. One such place is the historic St. Mark’s UMC church in Houston. We were recently involved in
a renovation project for the UMC church with Hunton Trane in Houston. The same UMC church was involved in a fire in 2019, reported here by Houston Public Media, a service by the University of Houston. OnScene TV Houston was there as well reporting, as seen on the video below.
CHP custom designed and installed a 2-row controllable St Mach 1 Thermosyphon Run Around Heat Pipe System (TRAHP®) within a Trane provided Outside Air unit to provide energy-efficient dehumidification for the congregation.
A key challenge of the project was the comfort of the congregation considering in Houston. Houston has a warm maritime climate with a lot of rain; in the summer the rain combined with the heat leads to very high humidity. The average humidity for Houston is 75%.
The incorporation of the Carolina Heat Pipe TRAHP® System typically provided a two-year payback period.
At design load conditions the CHP TRAHP® System installed within OAU-1 (3500 CFM) will provide 3.5 tons of cooling load reduction and 41.6 MBH of reheat.
- Reduced load on the cooling system
- Reduced HVAC operating costs—and greater ROI
- Improved overall HVAC operating efficiency
